Bands formed by past members after lead singer's death

New Order was formed by Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris, the surviving members of Joy Division in July 1980, two months after the suicide of the latter's frontman Ian Curtis with Gillian Gilbert joining them three months later.

Foo Fighters was formed by Dave Grohl, the drummer of Nirvana in October 1994, six months after the suicide of the latter's frontman Kurt Cobain with the full band comprising of Grohl, Nate Mendel, William Goldsmith and Pat Smear performing their first concert four months later.
