Two words: Takarazuka Revue, which is the most famous example of an all-female musical theatre troupe in Japan and fun fact - Kabuki theatre originated as an all-female theatre troupe before switching to all-male in 1629 and while Takarazuka and other all-female theatre troupes are more Broadway-style, nihon-buyō is more influenced by the original Kabuki concept with a mixed-gender angle.
