The two American soccer clubs have the same number of championships

New York Cosmos had the most championships in the original North American Soccer League with five - 1972, 1977, 1978, 1980 and 1982.
While LA Galaxy has the most championships in the NASL's spiritual successor Major League Soccer with five - 2002, 2005, 2011, 2012 and 2014.
