The Olympic Stadiums that almost were
There have been only two stadiums that were intended to be held the Olympics but never did due to war such as the Deutsches Stadion (below) in Berlin, Germany (at the time, the German Empire), which was intended to be the main stadium of the 1916 Summer Olympics before it was cancelled due to World War I before being demolished in 1934 (a year after Adolf Hitler took power) to make way for the Olympiastadion, which hosted the 1936 Summer Olympics.
And also, the Meiji Jingu Gaien Stadium in Tokyo, Japan (at the time, the Japanese Empire), which was intended to be the main stadium of the 1940 Summer Olympics before the games relocated to Helsinki, Finland after the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1937, which ultimately did not happen due to World War II before the stadium was demolished in 1956 (nine years after the empire's dissolution) to make way for the National Stadium, which hosted the 1964 Summer Olympics.
